From September 2020 Relationship Education will become compulsory in all primary schools in England and Relationship & Sex Education will become compulsory in all Secondary schools across England.
However if your child attends primary school – you will still have the automatic right to remove them from Sex Education if the school teaches it. You can download and amend this sample withdrawal letter and give to the school to request this.
However please be aware that certain aspects of sex education, for example teaching about the private parts of the body are often being taught in national curriculum science from which you do not have the right to remove your child.
If your child attends secondary school you need to request the right to have your child excused from Sex Education lessons. You will need to contact the Headteacher to discuss this.
